Pennsylvania Farm Bureau

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB), the state’s largest general farm organization, is pleased to partner with the Global Emissions Exchange (GEX) to offer a unique program for energy conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, while strengthening our nation’s energy security and creating new income opportunities. The PFB/GEX program will help farmers, other landowners and agribusiness enterprises become engaged with the carbon credit trading marketplace.

While the program is open to all who meet eligibility requirements, Farm Bureau members benefit from a reduced trading fee and lower cost of administration – amounting to a savings of 10 % for each transaction. Registrants for 2009 carbon credits can join Farm Bureau at any time during the 2009 calendar year.  This will ensure that you receive the PFB discount when the sale of your carbon credits occurs.  Registrants for 2008 no-till credits must be Farm Bureau members by the end of April, 2009.

The service operates in a world-wide marketplace, but PFB and GEX are working to build a “Pennsylvania First Program” -- where buyers and sellers are advanced within the commonwealth. Environmental achievements and economic benefits can be greater for Pennsylvania when the carbon sequestration marketplace is focused within its borders.

The PFB/GEX program will also support a variety of energy reduction opportunities and emerging technologies for farmers.

The carbon credit trading program for agriculture developed by the GEX and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau has been introduced in the following eight pilot counties of Pennsylvania: Armstrong, Beaver, Berks, Chester, Columbia, Franklin, and Lycoming.  Check here or at the PFB website for information on the program's extension to other counties during 2009.  Buyers and users of biodiesel fuel can currently register for carbon credits in all Pennsylvania counties.

Presently, the PFB/GEX program is open for registering the Following types of projects:

  • No-Till & Grassland conversion
  • Biodiesel fuel
  • Forestry (coming later in 2009)

Welcome to our Pennsylvania First Program that provides for the local purchasing of carbon credits.  Our PA First Program participants will be listed right here for all members to see!
